Hilo

Hilo—a Hawaiian word meaning “to braid” or “to twist”—is embodied by an abstract tree, its smaller counterpart stands in front of the Subway on Kīlauea Avenue in Downtown Hilo. Named after the town itself, it resonates deeply with my wife, Keiko, and me. Having lived and worked downtown for most of our lives, our affection for Hilo runs deep—this tree perfectly reflects that bond.
